چکیده

TASAKI, I. AND A. F. BAK. Discrete threshold and repetitive responses in the squid axon under ‘voltage-claw@ By using the so-called voltage-clamp technique, records were obtained indicating the presence of undulatory or oscillatory membrane current under fixed potential difference between the internal and external electrodes. This oscillatory membrane current was observed only when rectangular membrane depolarization was in the range between 15 and about 35 mv. The amplitude of the oscillatory membrane current was of the order of I ma/cm2. The oscillatory membrane current disappeared suddenly when the depolarizing clamping pulse was reduced below the ‘threshold.’ Various sources of artefact were examined,

Membrane conductance and currentvoltage relation in the squid axon under ‘voltage-clamp.’ &L-The conductance of the squid axon membrane under ‘voltage-clamp’ was measured by superposing a sinusoidal wave upon rectangular clamping voltage pulses. It was possible to determine the time course of the emf of the membrane under ‘voltage-clamp’ on a single p...

How Gymnodinium breve red tide toxin(s) produces repetitive firing in squid axons.

Partially purified toxin(s), GbTX, extracted from Gymnodinium breve red tide organisms elicits a spontaneous train of action potentials in the squid giant axon. The spikes have a shape similar to that in the normal seawater control except for an increase in the rate of recovery from the afterhyperpolarization. With this more rapid recovery, the membrane potential overshoots the resting potentia...

Current-Voltage Relations in the Lobster Giant Axon Membrane Under Voltage Clamp Conditions

The sucrose-gap method introduced by Stämpfli provides a means for the application of a voltage clamp to the lobster giant axon, which responds to a variety of different experimental procedures in ways quite similar to those reported for the squid axon and frog node. This is particularly true for the behavior of the peak initial current. However, the steady state current shows some differences....

Current-voltage relations of single nodes of Ranvier as examined by voltage-clamp technique.

THE RELATIONSHIP between the potential difference across an excitable membrane and the current that flows through the membrane has been investigated on the squid giant axon by the use of the so-called voltage-clamp technique (7, 17). This technique involves the sudden elevation of the membrane potential and, by an automatic control of the membrane current, the maintenance for a certain period o...
